Jesus walks on the water

(20230924)

Today's message is about Jesus, who walked on the water.

Let's read today's key verse.

What do you need when you go swimming? (Children respond.)

You need a floatation tube to stay afloat in the water, a beach ball to play with friends, sunglasses to protect your eyes from the sun, sunscreen and flip-flops, and sometimes even an umbrella. But what's the most important thing here?

(Children respond.)

Yes, that's right. The most important thing in the water is a life jacket.

Wearing a life jacket allows us to float on the water without sinking.

Let's see how today's story relates to life jackets.

In today's message, Jesus walked on the water. His disciples thought it was a ghost. Peter asked Jesus, "Lord, how are you walking on the water? I want to do that, too!" Did Peter also walk on the water? Do you want to walk on the water?

Peter believed in Jesus and stood on the water. "Jesus! I'm walking on water!"

When Peter believed in Jesus, he could walk on the water.

But suddenly, Peter started to sink into the water.

Why do you think Peter suddenly began to sink? (Children respond.)

When Peter saw the wind, he was afraid and began to sink. He cried out, “Lord, save me!”

Immediately, Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?” And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down.

Jesus is like a life jacket to us. We can be saved by believing in Jesus.

Do you have anything difficult these days? (Ask if there are any difficulties in their lives.)

Getting used to a new school is not easy, is it? But remember that Jesus always reaches out to us. I pray that you can take courage in Jesus.

Let's pray.

Dear Heavenly Father, Jesus is always with me. Jesus can help me with difficult things. Help me to trust Jesus. Help me to take courage in Jesus. I pray in Jesus’ name, Amen.
